News Brief:

Loane Russet OLY has started the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore in style, taking down her own National Record in the Women’s 100m Freestyle. Despite having to wait until day 5 of the competition, Loane swam a 1.03.13 to take nearly 3 seconds off her National Record of 1.05.97 that she swam at the 2024 World Championships in Qatar. Loane finished 4th in her heat and in 68th position overall.
Commenting on her race, Loane Russet OLY said “I’m very happy to swim a personal best and do the time that I was aiming for. I was really nervous heading into the swim, while at the same time excited to get my campaign at the World Championships started. I was happy with the way I raced, feeling good in the first 50m and then trying to hold my pace and go even faster in the second 50m. There are still a few things I am looking to improve upon, and I know once I get back into training and improve those areas, I can get even faster and ultimately get to that sub-60 second mark in the next few years.”
Vanuatu Head Coach Lachlan Milner added, “Loane’s performance today was spectacular. It was a reflection of the resilience, maturity and mental strength she has built up over months of hard work. Loane didn’t just swim the 100m Freestyle, she brought everything we’ve been working on to life – her mindset, her belief and her purpose. I’m proud beyond words.”
Loane has one more event to go, the Women’s 50m Butterfly on Friday 1st August.
