Athletes make waves at Oceania Championships.

The Vanuatu National squad have against odds made waves at the Oceania Championships 2024 in Gold Coast Australia. The athletes were up against opponents from Australia to Solomons Islands including other Pacific islands at this prestigious event. The swimmers, Leo Lebot, Johnathan Silas, Elven Rousset, Chloe Ameara and Loane Russet proved to be an ambitious squad that achieved an overall set of impressive personal bests and national records in the feat of the tournament.
They were accompanied by team manager Kali Ameara and Vanuatu Aquatic Federation Technical Development Director Ben Howard. The determined squad had then participated in the events of 50 meter and 100-meter in Butterfly, Back stroke, Freestyle and Breast stroke.
It was an impressive tournament with the 6 setting an outstanding 24 national records and 32 personal bests. This is a fantastic accomplishment that the federation is delighted with. Ben Howard VAF Technical Development Director added with pride:
‘We are all very proud of their achievements and thank the sponsors and volunteers who have supported them on this journey’
It has been a challenging journey for these young athletes, but exposure at high level performance such as this has been a great experience for them to take into future events this year. VAF overall acknowledges its sponsors we believe that their investments in the team shows how they believed in their capability to represent as young ambassadors of Vanuatu.
